"LOST" THEATRES

Image of 20,000 seat theatre built in Rome by Pompey The Great around 48 BC during the last years of the Roman Republic.

One of the special features included on the Arts-Info site is a compilation of basic information on Lost Theatres, Concert Halls, Opera Houses, Cinema/Theatres, etc - now either demolished, converted to other use (Churches, Multi-Plex Cinemas, Bingo, Warehouses, Public Houses, etc.), or simply abandoned, neglected and/or forgotten. Also to be included will be details of Theatres and Concert Halls in Private Houses and those Theatres (especially in the UK) which were created in establishments for the mentally impaired - the Jubilee Theatre in Gosforth, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK & the Normansfield Hospital Amusement Hall in Teddington, Nr. London, UK are prime examples.

Our sketchy information at present covers the following countries:

More research needs to be done regarding these & other countries and their theatrical & musical history.

Your help in bringing these forgotten buildings to our attention would be gratefully appreciated - links are provided within certain Countries and Continents to Organsations and Conservation Bodies with fuller information regarding Theatres and also Cinemas - especially Cinema/Theatres where "live" performances were held alongside the screening of films.

Details gathered will also be passed on to the relevant Conservation Bodies/Trusts whenever & wherever possible.
