Calendar Girls opening in Liverpool

Recently becoming the most successful play of all time to tour the United Kingdom, Calendar Girls has now surpassed more at the box office than the original film with over £21 million in ticket sales. Liverpool will be a stop on the final tour that stars Jan Harvey, Debbie Chazen, June Watson, Rula Lenska and Bruno Langley as the photographer.

The play adapted from the original film centres around a group of regular women that are members of an ordinary Yorkshire WI that persuade one another to pose nude for a charity calendar and create a global phenomenon.

Tim Firth, from his hit Miramax film adapted the screenplay for the stage. Released in 2003 the film was a hit instantly at the box office becoming UK’s number one grossing film on its release. Firth’s theatre credits include such plays as The Safari Party, The Flint Street Nativity and Our House the Olivier Award winning musical. His film credits include Blackball and Kinky Boots for the BBC the award winning Preston Front.

Jack Ryder, who just recently performed in Plenty directs Calendar Girls. Robert Jones did the set design while Tim Lutkin is in charge of lighting and music is by Steve Parry.
