The newest Nokia Lumia models will ship with 25 five original, classical ringtones that have been composed by the Nokia Sound Team and recorded by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. Nokia’s sudden decision to choose classical ringtones for their newest smartphone models was inspired by a recent study which shows that classical ringtones are very popular at the moment.
Nokia’s in-house sound designers were the once responsible for the creation and composition of the ringtones. It was Bratislava Symphony Orchestra’s job to play and record the pieces. Currently, some models of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 ship with the new ringtones. Nokia are planning to include the newly crafted content in all their new models.
One of the members of Nokia’s sound designers said: “Initially, we planned to explore classical and film music, but after some research we found out that classical ringtones are much more popular than all other styles of ringtones. We decided that we had the capabilities to make something truly unique and we believe that we’ve done a good job. We can’t wait to hear the opinions of future Lumia owners.
Asbjoern Andersen, member of Epic Sound, stated: “In my opinion Nokia is one of the brands that worked hard to develop the sound of mobile phones. We all remember the XpressMusic series which were one of the most desired Nokia models in the past. Their idea to introduce classical ringtones to newer telephone models will certainly be appreciated by consumers.”
He added: “Usually, ringtones are created in a studio by using special software and synthesisers. However, Nokia’s decision to use an entire orchestra to record their ringtones has created an amazing set of music that will pleasantly surprise everybody. So far we’ve always been interested in the hardware and software of devices, but Nokia might turn stock content into an interesting thing as well”
